Aston Villa drubs Bolton Wanderers....

It was John Carew’s day as he scored a goal and assisted Ashley Young, Gabriel Agbonlahor and James Milner for three more goals. Aston Villa was spot on from the word go. Ashley Young netted the first goal just five minutes from the kick off. It was then the turn of Gabriel Agbonlahor who cashed in the opportunity and ended up his shot in the far corner of the net at the 42nd minute. Few minutes later the referee gave a harsh free kick against Agbonlahor. Elmander found the rebound of the shot taken by Cahil and scored the solitary goal for Bolton Wanderers. At the end of the second half the score line read 2-1. Villa looked rejuvenated and was in control of the game. The second half had nothing for Bolton fans but even more disappointment, although Bolton Wanderers performed better than the first half. Carew went past through Knight and Cahil to score Villa’s third goal in the 53rd minute. Later in the 71st minute Milner had a spot kick aided by Carew who had been pulled back in the penalty area by Davies. Jaaskelainen had it saved only to find Agbonlahor who had hit the rebound to the post which was then seen through by Milner himself. Three minutes later Cuellar headed the next goal and the match ended with Aston Villa having a resounding home win with a margin 5-1. For not the Bolton goalie Jaaskelainen the score line would have been much worse. Martin O’Neill was delighted with his team’s win which was very much needed because they had got only two points of their last three matches.

Steven Gerrard saves the day for Liverpool....

It was Gerrard the super sub who had equalized with a penalty, saving Liverpool from the blushes of a home defeat by Birmingham City. Liverpool opened the account with a goal by Ngog in the 12th minute but was soon equalized by Christian Benitez. Later Cameron Jerome stunned the crowd with a 30 yard kick to put Birmingham City in the lead just before the break. This had happened just after Rafa Benitez substituted Albert Riera with Steven Gerrard. Liverpool went into the break one goal down and had lots of pressure as Fernando Torres was not in the squad. It was all up to Gerrard, Ngog and Benayoun to handle the pressure. Lucas and Benayoun had the Birmingham goalie Hart on his feet in the second half. There was a flurry of errors on the possession of the ball in the second half as the pressure built up more and more on the home team. Soon Liverpool was awarded a penalty, as Ngog got the better of Carsley. Gerrard completed the formality. Liverpool must be disappointed to have got a draw in home but Rafa Benitez was happy with their performance. On the other hand Alex Mcleish was extremely satisfied with Birmingham City’s performance but a win would have been a great relief and a morale booster as they are only a few points away from the relegation zone.

Captain leads the way...

Undoubtedly the most expected match on card for this week was the one between Chelsea and Manchester United. Chelsea had an edge due to their current form, which was the major concern for Sir Alex Ferguson. Although Chelsea played in home, it was Man U who were spot on.Chelsea survived an early scare in the first half when the ref turned down a penalty appeal on Terry who tugged down Antonio Valencia's shirt. Later however Terry managed to net in the winner on the 76th minute with the help of Frank Lampard. For not the goal of Terry the match was heading to a draw. Carlo Ancelotti had maintained his club's 100% win in home this season with an impressive club record of 11 successive home wins. With this win Chelsea drafted a five points clear of Arsenal and Man U.
